I had to move my domain name (blog Word PRess 2.6) and Word Press files from one host to another. I backed up onto my hard disk. With the new host I installed Word Press 2.7 through cPanel -Fantanstico. I now have the basic Word Press installation at my domain address. I have these files on my desktop which I presume contain my last three years of blogs and I can't work out from the forum how to get all my old files, theme etc to run at this new host. The files on my hard disk are:
    backup-12.2.2008_17-09-34_childrf2.tar.gz
    childrf2_wrp1_wp_20081001_194.sql.gz
Can someone guide me through how to get my old Word Press blog to run at the same domain name but new host? Many thanks for any suggestions.

I wrote a tutorial on this:

    http://www.ofimdavarzea.com/en/moving-a-wordpress-blog-to-another-domain-the-complete-guide-and-best-practices/

It's about moving to a new domain, but I think it will help you. Just skip the part about the new urls.

Thanks for your help jnoronha. I managed to get the database restored and be able to login to the WP-admin and All my previous blogs are there. Now my problem is that when I click on site preview or type in the url all I get is a blank screen.

    try resetting your permalinks:

    1. Settings > Permanent > Change to default (the ?p=123 one)
    2. Set permalinks back to what you want (i.e. a /something/something/title one)
