Transferring site over from other software (2 posts)

    Hello Newbie Here,

I have a site running another software package not WordPress. I want the site to be running wordpress but I need to keep the old site up 100% until I port it over. What I am wondering is if I install wordpress in another directory can I get it all set up say with all the plugins, themes, doodads and at a set point move it to the root of my current site and it overrides the site? I know I can move it but the database will be messed up a bit. I really dont want to redirect the index.htm to point to the wp directory in that I like clean urls and not /wp/mysite/... I would prefer it to be in the root so can this be done or should I just redirect?

    Thanks in advance!

    you can do this
install the wordpress in the same directory except the index.php file of the wordpress.
now you can port the website as the wp-admin will work but the home page of wp will not work
after you port the website.just copy index.php in the directory and you are done. This will help you if you dont want to redirect

    hope it helps
