transfering to new domain (4 posts)

I am stepping into a wordpress site that has already been designed (template, pages, posts images, plugins etc.) It was hosted on the original designers personal server and could only be accessed through his domain. We are trying to get it to show up under our domain. He is a bit hard to deal with because of his other jobs. But He has sent me over a zip of all the needed files. I have experience loading up pages to websites through a c-panel. The current hosting that we like to switch this over too does not use a c-panel. I think I understand the process of starting a new wordpress blog on my own domain. But the uploading or transferring of an already created blog does not seem like it would be the same process? or is it? any help or a point in the right direction would be very appreciated

ok looks like my hosting provider is going to switch me over to a server with a c-panel. But I would love any help or a point in the right direction. Are there any tutorials out there?

If you are using an updated version of WordPress, you will find under the menu "Tools" options for importing and exporting the entire blog. So you can:

    1. Create a new WordPress installation on your new hosting
    2. Export the site contents from the current installation Admin
    3. Import the site back into the new installation using it's Admin

You may also need to transfer Theme files...
