    Hello!

I'm a newbie in WordPress and I want to transfer my WordPress site to an online server. As a pre-requisite to my project I have to deploy it using the university's domain server but apparently it has no CPanel..

All the tutorials I have read seems to use CPanel to upload and transfer WordPress to online...

Please lead me to the right direction..

    Thanks!

You can use FTP instead. Ask the server administrators for the FTP credentials.

    Hello fonglh!
Does FTP include import of the website database?
    Thanks! :)

No it doesn't. They might already have phpmyadmin set up and you can use that to import the database. It's just a nice graphical web portal for database management.

If not, you can still import the database with command line stuff, but it's a lot less intuitive.

    Check with the administrators.

Unfortunately, the site don't have phpmyadmin either..
But they already gave me FTP credentials
I don't know how to import database online using command line stuff
    neither in Windows or Linux..

    Any tutorial? :)

    Thank you!

You'll need a SSH client, the SSH login details for your server and the database details. It's not that straightforward. Perhaps you can just give the administrators the SQL file and let them do it for you.

If the domain is not hosted anywhere and has no FTP - you wont be able to place WordPress on it. WordPress requires a web server.

How about SSH access? Did they give you instructions on how to login to the server?

Do you have access to a MySQL server?

You'll need access to MySQL since WordPress is database driven. If you're not sure how to do this, you may want to contact the IT department for MySQL access.

Hello, I already uploaded WordPress online
it was working at first but then images won't show up..
Then I edited the database because I thought
the siteurl path and home was wrong but then
the entire page was lost.. it says pages cannot be found..
    :(

So edit the database back to what it was, previously before you changed it. Do you have a URL we can look at?

You can always backup your database first before editing it.

Always save a full backup of your wordpress site on your local computer

You should have changed the site and wordpress url before you created a backup of the files and database. You can change it in your WordPress dashboard under General Settings

    WordPress Address (URL)
    Site Address (URL)

Then you can upload your files to your server and import your database using PhpMyAdmin

I just added these lines of code in wp-config.php

    define('WP_HOME','http://example.com'); define('WP_SITEURL','http://example.com');

Then My site is back again.. yey!
Afterwards, I updated the database carefully..

Thank you so much for all your help and guidance!
    Much appreciated!
    :)
