[resolved] Transfer of server - DB Issue (7 posts)

Recently the server of hosting service was subjected to DOS attacks, due to which they asked me to allow them to get my sites brandasy.com and restaurants-uncut.com transferred to another server. Previous was using Plesk, this one is using Cpanel.

Now the problem is I assumed that the site would be transferred intact. Sadly this is isn’t the case. Although the wordpress installation seems to be intact, the site is not showing. The front end is showing the CPanel while when I try to access the worpdress panel via /wp-admin, it gives the error ‘ Error connecting to database’. Their tech people say that they haven’t transferred the Database which I’ll have to restore myself.

Now I don’t have any backup of the DB. Their tech people say that they will place the transferred DB in the FTP but I’ll have to restore it myself.

How do I go about it? Would I be able to restore the database using the data they provide?

How would I do it? And how else can the hosting provider help me if he won’t restore the DB?

And would the front-end be intact when I do manage to restore the database? Because I don’t have any back-up of the front end either – I’m hoping they’ve transferred that intact.

    Regards

Hmm. First, FTP and view wp-config.php This will probably be in the root of your site. Check what's there, and fill in database details as required. You'll be able to get those from your host, or from CPanel or whatever it is.

    One step at a time.

Ok I have got the wp-confige. Created the database, user and password on the new setup according to that.
The provider has given me the DB backup file as well. Problem is, it is 29mb whereas the import feature in myphp admin says you can import 8mb max.

    What do I do now?

Can't help you at this point. Somebody else might here, or someone on a PHP forum.

Your host doesn't sound very helpful (to be polite)

    Thanks Richarduk again.

For the record, the solution to this problem is to use Wingzip to compress the database file. I was able to compress a 29mb into a wonderful 3mb file which I was able to import successfully into the database.

I strongly recommend anyone having issues with larger databases to use this method.
