My trackbacks aren't working at all, using the default theme of 1.5
When I click on "trackback this entry" from a permalink page, the link just takes me to the permalink page.
Does anyone know what is going on? I've tried a few of the fixes in the archives here, and they haven't worked....

That's all the link is supposed to do when clicked. The link is there so that people can copy it into their blogging software where they can trackback to you when they post.

Really? In 1.2, when you clicked on "trackback this post," it took you to a page where you saw the trackback URI for the post, which usually looked something like this:
http://www.foo.com/324j12482309472390728439
Are you saying that the trackback URI is now just the permalink URL, like this?

nope--didn't work. I tried to trackback to a post just by using the permalink, and nothing happened...

I just don't understand how trackbacks cannot be working in the default theme install.

are you sure you got the trackbacks right?
to pingback, when available, simply put an html anchor with the permalink and everything will occur automatically.
to trackback, copy the trackback url and manually paste it in the "Send trackbacks to:" field within the 'write post' tab.

There has been a fix since the release of 1.5. I'm using the new code and it works now.
new code as in a redownload of the official version or a nightly?

Looks like they don't have access setup for the nightly build yet, but you can get it with SVN.
