Trackback Spam - Current Best way to stop? (5 posts)

I have been receiving a bunch of trackback spam. I have pings turned off, so I don't understand this.

What is the best way to handle (or prevent) trackback spam? Does 2.3 make it easier than 2.2.3?

Finally, how can I turn off comments on older posts?

    Thanks

    1. BadBehavior (plugin)
You install it in the same way for all WP versions.

    2. Manually? (but BB will take care of older posts, too...)

    1. Even if you turn-off pingbacks/trackbacks in the admin panel, you still have to go disable them on posts you've already made.

    2. Here's a plugin that turns off comments on posts older than 14 days (you can change the timeout)

I installed the close old posts plugin and now my trackback spam is increased 3 fold, on old posts that had no previous comments.

I was looking into this issue and found this article which may at least shed light on the problem.

This method seems to work for comment spam but is a little trickier for trackback spam.
