• Forgive the ignorance I am about to show here.

Ok…so I have built a blog on WordPress.
    I believe it’s 2.0.1

I have enabled the following options:
Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)
Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)
Allow people to post comments on the article

I can see “incoming links” on the dashboard … but nothing shows up in the comments as trackbacks.

Here are the factors that may be complicating things.

    1) Link format.
The support thread I read that was a similar issue had to do with the format of the trackback link.
While this may be an issue… shouldn’t the pingback functionality STILL work?
I have tried both methods with no luck.
But for the sake of compete disclosure…

I have chosen the permalink format of:
    http://mydomain.com/archives/123
The trackback URLS seem to show up as:
    http://mydomain.com/archives/123/trackback/

When I place the trackback URL into a browser window I get:
    OK
    The document has moved here.
To be honest I’m not sure if that’s supposed to happen or not.
I EXPECTED to end up at the permalink page.

So that may be an issue…
But even if it is why would the pingbacks not be working?

    2) I have anti comment spam plugins running.
    Specifically Bad Behavior & Captcha!
Not sure if those affect the pinkback / trackback functions – but there’s nothing showing up as needing to be moderated or anything.

    3) I am using a custom theme.
It’s also completely feasible that I am missing something in the templates I have created.
I have added the following code to the single post page:
    <!–<?php trackback_rdf(); ?> –>
and I have added the meta tag
    <link rel=”pingback” href=”http://mydomain.com/xmlrpc.php&#8221; />
In my header I have also included the following code:
    <?php wp_head(); ?>

Is there anything else I should be doing?

  • We are experiencing the same problems with incoming pings and trackbacks. Upgraded to WP 2.1, disabling the plugins didn’t solve the problem. Al files and references are OK.

I’ll send anybody a sixpack of Heineken to wash away the tatse of the cigars. πŸ˜‰

To add something to despair, another blog of mine, running the same version and the same plugins (on antother server) does receive and process pings and trackback nicely…

I am having a similar issue. I have WP 2.1.2 and I can’t get any pings to be sent out, not even to the updaters (i.e. Blogrolling, My Yahoo, etc.) I also cannot send pings to other WP blogs, including another one I set up to test it out. When writing a post and indicating to send a ping, it shows up on the post editor a ping has been sent out, but nothing was actually sent.

I’ve been a nearly three year user of WP and never run into this problem, and I have all the code that was suggested above and in other threads. I also tried to disable Askimet to no avail, but that was grasping at straws since it was an error of sending pings out, not receiving them.

Any help would be much appreciated.

ADDED: For clarification purposes, I can ping posts within my blog, but for whatever reason nothing goes to other blogs or ping services.

Recently I have discovered that pings sent by a hand-made PHP script are being processed and stored by WordPress. Pings from other WordPress blogs however are not.
I have also tried to send a ping from a Microsoft Live Space but I’m not shure iif Microsoft supports sending pings to non-Microsoft blogs.

I use 2.0.9 and still cannot send out trackbacks πŸ™

    I did some tests:
    http://www.greensmilies.com/2007/03/16/trackback-test/
I send a trackback to all linked posts under each test.

I just upgraded to WordPress v2.1.2 and am experiencing the same inability to send pingbacks as almost everyone else here.

Update: I can send trackbacks, but I still can’t send pingbacks.

My issue with sending pingbacks appears to be caused by a “pre-release” version of Fauna RC 2 as pingbacks are successfully sent whenever the Default theme is used instead of Fauna. I’ll update this thread when I know more.

Well, Pingbacks are succesfully sent from my Blog but receiving pingbacks is not functioning. The system isssues a 403 error…
I think I’ll dig into the source code sometime

Same deal here. My ability to send pingbacks comes and goes intermittently; more often not at all. Trackbacks go out just fine.

Question, is there way to manually send a pingback? I am at a loss here.

Sussed it… after a month I realised that I had edited a post’s date and time and accidentally set it to the future – once that was changed to a date in the past, pingbacks jumped into life.

    indeed

    (@indeed)

Well, I’m having those problems to. Can someone please give us some explanation?

I am having problems too … I started a month ago with WordPress 2.1.2 and a few days ago upgraded to 2.1.3. I am administrator of 2 WordPress blogs so I can test that way.

I self-ping fine. I ping to her blog fine and I have done those things since the beginning. I think I have been pinging other places fine but not sure.

I have this morning gotten it right to trackback from one of our blogs to the other. (I was using the url when I clicked on url – and so it had no /tracbacks/ at the end) (this site helped me figure that out http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/ping/)

I have been trying for a few days to trackback to a typepad site who wants a trackback. She has gotten a trackback from another typepad site.

But I haven’t been able to do it with hers .. I used her url that was given for trackbacks for that post and I also added a /trackback/ on the end in case that was a problem.

I have spent hours looking at support posts and I don’t know what to do from here …

    any help is appreciated!

I think the wonderful guy, Adam Kalsey, at SimpleTracks figured it out.

I wasn’t doing it right on from one of my blogs to the other by not having the /trackback/ on the end. I am still not sure if I am supposed to add /trackback/ when another site has /trackback/ in the middle of their trackback.

But Adam figured out that the site that wanted my trackback was making me do a captcha check and … by trackback that wasn’t going to happen. So whew! It wasn’t me (hopefully) – so now I need to see if a friend wants a trackback to test.

So thank you!! and good luck!!

I’m having troubles with trackbacks after upgrading from 2.1.2 to 2.1.3.

    Site: http://spiralbound.net

Accept pings is enabled on all posts.

I can send pingbacks to my own stories from my own stories. (place a link to story2 in the test of story1 and get a pingback on story2 after a save.)

I can not sent trackbacks from my own stories to my own stories. (enter the URL to story2 in the “Send trackbacks to” field on story1). It shows up as sent, but no trackback shows up on story2.

Nobody can send me trackbacks or pingbacks from external sites. (link in text or using the “Send trackbacks to” field).

I am running a new theme, but I switched back to my old theme, and the exact same behavior is seen. I don’t see any 404’s, or errors in either error_log or access_log.

I am wondering if someone can chronicle what happens when a trackback or pingback is sent so that I can trace and confirm at each step.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I thought I had fixed not being able to do trackbacks, but I haven’t after all.

Cliff – what has helped me be able to send trackbacks to my other site is to make sure the trackback address has /trackback/ at the end – I hadn’t realized I needed that.

But I can’t figure out how to do it. I can send a trackback from Simpletracks if I use my blog address but not if I use the post address …

I am looking for ideas too.

    Thank you!
