Enhanced Media Library
Top-notch plugin, batch update glaring omission (9 posts)

Agree with many other reviewers. This is a smart, well-engineered plugin that introduces functionality that should be included in WordPress core. However, if you upload hundreds of photos to your media library, you currently have to edit each photo individually to connect it to taxonomy terms. That is completely impractical and the only reason this plugin gets only 4 out of 5 stars.

I took it upon myself to create a plugin that adds a bulk update feature for my own projects. I couldn't justify discarding EML, which I otherwise love, solely due to this missing functionality. You're welcome to download it, and use it. It'll get the job done, but I don't intend to support it. So when Enhanced Media Library includes bulk update functionality in the future, I recommend abandoning my band-aid solution and supporting EML.

    EDIT: Okay.

    Hello @cshontz,

Thanks for you feedback. I know that many of you really need bulk edit functionality, and it's truth that I promised it would be working long time ago. Not that I am lazy or not smart enough to make it work for 6 months. I had serious problems with my heath this time, so I couldn't be concentrated on my job. I have "somehow works" solution, but I am not satisfied with it. What I need is scalable and universal solution especially for so demanded functionality. Today I released new version with some necessary bug fixing and am ready to spend my time for bulk edit again. I will learn your solution as well. Thank you.

p.s. BTW there was a link to your solution. I wasn't me who removed it. Please post it again in some "secret" format.

It's no problem. You've done a great job with EML, and sometimes life gets in the way. Nevertheless, I hope you are doing better.

I implemented my solution very quickly, without much planning. Really just threw together some functions to make it work without delving too deeply into the logic. I think the biggest hurdle is the fact that there are no hooks to add functionality to the native "bulk update" feature, so this drop-down list is modified using jQuery on the front end. It's not elegant, but it works.

I'm not sure how helpful my code will be but you're welcome to use or reproduce any aspect of it. You've already done all of the hard work, which I am grateful for.

    Hi Chris

Just wanted to say that's actually a pretty great interim solution you've built there. Nice one :-)

It would be good if it could add categories/tags rather than completely replace what's already there already, and also have an option to remove categories as well. But you probably know that. I've had a stab, but frankly it's a bit beyond my capabilities at this stage. Thanks for putting it out there anyhow!

Very much looking forward Nadia's final bulk addition to EML and WordPress 4's grid view to make it the ultimate asset manager. :-)

    All the best,

Great plug in Nadia and great interim solution Chris. Thank you both for saving me a lot of time!

Thanks for the plugin. This is still such a glaring hole in the WP core and it needs to be addressed. Even NGG is still a funky hack solution with a clunky and slow workflow.

One huge request! Please add the ability to filter by no category. This should be dead simple.

Just uploaded a new version V1.1.1.1 to http://www.de-baat.nl/enhanced-media-library/ which includes the bulk actions with the official version V1.1.1.

It is there to download and re-use...

OO yes to be able to filter by no category would make it easier to find all the ones that got missed.

Thank you Nadia and thank you cshontz for the additional functionality.

Just a note to cshontz - it seems that although the bulk add category appears in the dropdown at the bottom of the page, it does not work from there. Works great from the dropdown at the top of the page. No big deal - I am fine with using the top box. Just a heads-up. Thanks!!
