There are thousands of WordPress themes – which means that many people won’t be familiar with your particular theme. So a link to your site where people can see the theme (and any problems) might result in more responses.
In the meantime, all I can suggest is creating a second sidebar that replicates your bottom sidebar and then editing header.php to include the new sidebar.

thanks for the tip esmi. here is a link to the theme i’m using http://www.tripleships.com/sample/ my blog isn’t quite developed. wanted to make sure a top navigation was possible before i went too far.
meanwhile i’ll attempt some copy and paste and see how i go. thanks!
I know it’s a bit late… but you just go to the widgets and put categories into the sidebar 1 area
We will need more information as looks like you do not have any menu when you log in admin do you see Menus in Appearance.
