• Ever since I updated WordPress, the top menu (where I would usually click to go to my dashboard when on the front end of my site) is gone. Is this a setting for everyone? Is there a way to change it back? I cannot easily go from front end to back end anymore. Please help!

  • Hi

You can go to your site back-end easily by add wp-admin after the site URL. e.g: http://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin

For showing the Toolbar once again Please go Dashboard > Users > Profile => Toolbar => Toolbar Show Toolbar when viewing site (Tick the Checkbox)

or You can go to your profile page easily by browsing: http://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/profile.php

Yes, I know that I can go to the dashboard that way, but it is much more difficult than using the toolbar. I have the checkbox ticked, but it still is not showing. Any other ideas? Maybe I need to change the code of my website or something?

Try clearing your browser cache. If that doesn’t work, try deactivating your plugins and switching to twentythirteen theme to see if it shows up there. If so reverse your steps to find out what’s causing that problem.

I cleared my browser cache, but nothing changed. I can’t switch themes because that would completely mess up my website. Oh well. I guess I will have to do without it. Thanks anyway.

Deactivating plugins and switching themes is a temporary standard troubleshooting step to see if it’s related to your theme – you should be able to switch back without problems.

My theme is custom and I have had lots of problems with it that only the developer is able to fix, so I don’t want to risk it. He is very hard to get ahold of, so he can’t be on standby for me. Maybe I will try in the middle of the night when no one will see.

In that case, you should probably ask him about this issue since we have no way to know how the theme is coded.

Ok, I will. I was just wondering if there was another way since, like I said, he is very hard to get ahold of. I am looking into switching to a new theme to avoid these issues. Thanks!

I have the same problem and I’m the developer stuck trying to figure out what to do.

Not only is MY menu gone, but a new horizontal menu is present with ALL pages listed – which wraps my entire page.

It also moved my RHS bar ads, to the very bottom left of the page.

And, my footer links no longer work.

This was an automatic WP update that hosed 4 of my main money sites.

Can’t find a way to manually create a horizontal menu in the new wigdets… and for sidebars, the options are Before content and after – not ‘beside” content… so, i can’t find a way to get my pages looking anything close to before.

It’s quite a mess and the templates came from several different places – all impacted.
