So this is kind of a strange phenomenon...When I create a new WordPress page, I see all the usual controls in the toolbar above the text area (I also have TinyMCE Advanced installed, all those are showing up fine as well). But once I publish the page, the toolbar disappears entirely and I can't get it back, making it of course difficult to make subsequent edits to the page. Any idea what is happening here?

I'm trying to insert links into a new post and the link tab is not lit up, thereby preventing me from inserting links. do you have any idea what might be going on? Thanks.

@webbcity: Have you tried:
- deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
- switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
- resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Hi esmi, thanks so much! Those look like great suggestions. Will try these today and post here with results later on.

Nope...no luck unfortunately. Tried all three things you suggested and I couldn't get the toolbar to come back. All I have above the text area are the four icons for adding image/video/audio/media.
Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Try re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress 3.1.2.

esmi... You are a genius, and a life saver! Thank you so much! That did it. Something must have gone wrong in the initial installation. Many, many thanks.
