Is it wise to have a counter widget when you typically have 10-20 visits max per day? I don't know that I want it known that I don't have much traffic to my site yet.

Why have a displayed counter at all? Your visitors won't care about it and, to be honest, counters are old-fashioned and the mark of an amateur. If you want to keep an eye on your site's traffic, install a stats plugin or use Google analytics.
