• Hi,

I’ve recently tested my site http://www.speciesuniverse.com for SEO properties using the web browser plugin SEO Doctor and apparently my post titles are not registering as “Title Tags” as they should in SEO Doctor.

When I check WordPress general settings I find that the urls I listed under “WordPress Address (URL)” and “Site Address (URL)” are greyed out and unable to be edited?

I do have a site title and a tagline which appear on opening the home page. Each post has a title.

So, why does SEO Doctor register that I have no title tags on home page or on any of my posts?

Does anyone know why this might be and how to correct it?

    Thanks,

    John

  • Do you find any errors in your Google Webmaster tools account? Do you find titles in your Google SERPs?

    You need to ask them.

Yes there are titles in Google SERPs.

As far as Google Webmaster Tools I find these errors:

    1.URLs roboted out:

When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that the site’s robots.txt file was blocking access to some of the URLs. If you don’t intend to block some of the URLs contained in the Sitemap, please use our robots.txt analysis tool to verify that the URLs you submitted in your Sitemap are accessible by Googlebot. All accessible URLs will still be submitted.

    2. Some URLs in the Sitemap have a high response time.

Some URLs listed in this Sitemap have a high response time. This may indicate a problem with your server or with the content of the page.

These errors are the only two appearing and deal with an affiliate link for the first error and two other pages for the second error.

I see nothing else in Google Webmaster Tools indicating that Title tags are missing.

I don’t know what to make of it.

My other sites using the same theme have the title tags appearing in SEO Doctor.

PS I found how to fix the grey out of under General settings of the sites URLs from another forum post.

please use our robots.txt analysis tool to verify that the URLs you submitted in your Sitemap are accessible by Googlebot.

Use the tool and verify as directed. BTW, your robots.txt file looks OK as it has:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /wp-admin/
    Disallow: /wp-includes/

Some URLs listed in this Sitemap have a high response time.

Optimize the pages with these URLs. They may be very slow loading or have other problems, or may be server problems.

I see nothing else in Google Webmaster Tools indicating that Title tags are missing.

That means your title tags are quite OK and need not worry about them. As I mentioned, ask the authors of the particular SEO tool that you are using why they are misreporting meta tags.

Please note that for all practical purposes, what problems that you find in your Google webmaster tools are to be taken care of and all such problems are to be dealt with at Google forums, neither here (WordPress.org forums) nor using any untrusted tools.

    Good Luck! 🙂

Thanks for your expertise, I appreciate it!

I’ll take care of it at the other sites as recommended.
