I am experiencing several issue with the titles too.
I have installed a fresh WordPress site with no plugin and the deafult theme. After installing WordPress SEO default titles has the site name appears twice in the title. Nothing I do gets it fixed..
I tried installing another SEO plugin and get the same results. So WordPress is overriding what these plugins want to do. How do we tell WP to just shut up? 🙂

Sorry but that’s just plain rubbish! WP does not over-ride anything. Your theme, perhaps. WP? No.
Esmi, thanks I look at the theme, but look at Michelle’s comment. She is experiencing issues with the default theme.
Michelle’s issue is a known problem with this particular plugin.
Thanks Esmi, it is in fact the theme. Yoast’s SEO for WordPress is not compatible with Gantry framework. There are instructions to fix this here: http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=420&t=125525&p=627552&hilit=seo%20plugin&rb_v=viewtopic#p627552
I will try that now.
Hi Esmi,
When you say this is a known issue, what do you mean ?
Known to whom?
I have searched around yoast.com and cannot find any mention of it.
Thanks,
Michelle
It’s a known issue with Yoast’s plugin. If you search the forums, you’ll find it mentioned quite a few times.
Rockettheme’s posted fix didn’t work. Evidently the forum post was old and they already included it in their template code so I’m opening up that thread again.
For those having problems with SEO title tags and Rockettheme gantry themes, hopefully by the time you read this there will be a solution posted here: http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=420&t=125525&p=700985&rb_v=viewtopic#p700985
