TinyMCE – not working for a 2nd time

My Ultimate TinyMCE install failed again, or more accurately is not working yet again. Twice in one week on now two different sites, site with — different host different template and in this new case the only plugin installed. Last week installed the same plugin on another new site and for the first time in half a dozen recent installs has suddenly stopped working. It doesn’t seem to matter what template, what host or now what plugin. Darn, have really become attached to this plugin. The one same instance that 2 of those failures had in common was that they were wp 3.8. I’ve checked to see if there were any new “screen options”hiding something no luck. And I have as they suggest checked to make sure my profile setting for the visual is properly set.Turned all plugins off and then back on…. plus more … nothing

I’m not getting much action with the alternatives either. Wondering if this is a 3.8 issue only?
