I noticed when trying to add a page in HTML mode with the WP unformatted feature of sponge 1 the weird <p> and <br /> formatting is there.
When I remove the TinyMCE Advanced plugin, the WP unformatted behavior returns to normal.
This may have been there in 2.8, but I only noticed it when I upgraded to 2.9.
