My friend called me about his problem trying to upload (he’s wordpress newbie) so I checked & found there are no thumbnails in it! If I upload a test image, thumbnail is there ok. Checked the upload folder, all the thumbnails are there.

It turned out to be that missing thumbnails have wrong thumbnail url address – something like http://wp-content/uploads/yourimageetc.jpg – there is no domain in it!

Thumbnails were fine even with latest version of WordPress but I don’t know how it happened, I think my friend somehow messed it up!

How do I fix this? Help me!

  • I’m having a similar issue after downloading the files from an old install and uploading them to a new one, the URLs pointing to the old files are wrong.

A correct URL (of a freshly uploaded file in the new install) looks like this: http://leapfrog.dreamhosters.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/485214145_f59d32cf03.jpg

An incorrect URL (of an ‘imported’ file) looks like this: http://leapfrog.dreamhosters.com/blog/?attachment_id=384

I’m guessing it’s a permalink / .htaccess problem… Any ideas on a fix would be very welcome!

I have seen the exact same problem as kaeru. Still working on a solution. Will post an answer if I find it.

In my setup, all my pages and posts use the correct wp-content/uploads URLs, so they work fine. The issue is that the admin UI for managing uploads and inserting links only show the broken attachment_id URL.

The problem might be… I did the import of the old blog by importing all posts and copying the upload directory. After the install I set the permalink option to use date style. Maybe changing this after the import is unable to fix the permalink for uploaded files. It of course works fine for post permalinks though. Looks like a WP bug to me.
