PS: I have to zoom back out one click to get the “Edit Post” button to show up. Also, some zoom clicks only make the page wider and push things out-of-sight without changing the sizes of fonts.

Try this text zoom plugin for Firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/En-us/firefox/addon/nosquint/ – It gives you the option to resize text alone and not the whole page so you shouldn’t get massive horizontal scrollbars.
Cool. 125/110 works nicely for me.
Here is a shot of this site broken for about half the world in IE8:

Alchymyth recently raised this in the mailing list, but I think the only way old browser issues are going to be resolved if everyone pitches in and proposes the solutions. I think it’s too much to ask of Otto otherwise.

I’m planning on looking at it some time today.
Cool beans.
I do know Otto has his hands quite full, and I commend him for all the tremendous efforts he gives for the sake of all! I now have my Twenty Twelve Child Theme acting responsively in IE8, but I am just a cut-and-paste mechanic. However, I am sure there is someone here who could pitch in a bit even along with you and help keep this everyone-needs-it WordPress site on the top shelf!

I don’t have access to the real IE8, but it looks like the IE8 issues with the navigation reside in the styles applied to it in ‘ie.css
‘.

If you ever need me to take a real-IE8 look, just let me know! 😉
With the NoSquint Firefox add-on you mentioned, I mow have two lateral scrollbars (one for the browser tab and one within the page) and I had not noticed that before if both were already there.

That’s weird! I’ve never had 2 lateral scrollbars with that plugin.
The ‘ie.css
‘ styles may have been used for the original header design and when the new design came out the ‘ie.css
‘ styles were forgotten about, or maybe they’re just for a different version of IE.
Many thanks to whoever is or has been working on this! The site now seems to act about the same in my old IE8 as in the latest Firefox. Moving the “Edit Post >>” button to the same location as the regular “Post” button would be helpful since it is not visible while the page is zoomed and the edit window has to be scrolled laterally to find it. On the profile page, however, the “Threads Started” column now drops to below “Recent Replies” so the zoomed page no longer has to be scrolled laterally.

Thanks for raising these issues – really helpful 🙂 If you could provide screenshots of the issue that would extra helpful, but don’t worry if you can’t. Your description should be enough.

Understood, and I did not mean to say there are any. But let me make this post and then an edit to add the screenshots and I will show you what I mean about the “Edit Post >>” button in any browser…

Sorry that may have come across wrong, I’m just trying to avoid coming across as though I’m taking credit for resolving the issues you raise in this thread. As I’m the only one replying it could seem like I am the one fixing. There is an unsung hero fixing these issues and it’s not me 😉
Sorry that may have come across wrong…
Nah, all is well…and kudos to the “unsung hero”!
The Firefox “NoSquint” add-on you had previously suggested to me had begun working differently yesterday, and I first thought that might have been because I had cleared my cache. However, the forums pages now do work better in IE8 (and even if only incidentally) where looking for that “Edit Post>>” button at the edge of the page in any browser has always been a bit of an issue whenever the page is zoomed.
