• I have used PROSE from StudioPress for years and now this this is somehow updating my PROSE installation and replacing it. Is anyone else using STUDIOPRESS PROSE and having this issue?

  • I had this same problem, after updating my theme all my formatting got wiped out, and it seems my StudioPress Prose theme was replaced by another theme with the same name.

This creates concern for auto updates if updates can not be trusted, and potential security issue if something like this could be targeted directly.

@mulgar, Don’t worry themes aren’t automatically updated by WordPress unless you explicitly tell WordPress to do so.

@andrew yes true, for this I probably manually updated but didn’t realise WP had selected an incorrect update for the theme.

It doesn’t really resolve the issue of why the update was allowed by a different vendor with same theme name to overwrite my present theme.

Obviously in future I’ll be double-checking this, but it opens up a concern on why this even happened (or is possible to happen again in the future) in the first place.

Don’t worry?? Sorry? I strongly disagree and so will 100% of the community I think.

    This is EXTREMELY DODGY…

This kind of thing is deceptive and misleading. To have this go on is not acceptable. Genesis Prose (the *real* one) tells us that WordPress says there is an update ready for us. Then we update to this rubbish and lose our main site? No way.

No way is this ISSUE (and it is a SERIOUS ISSUE) the fault of Genesis Prose or Studiopress.

Not exactly a shining endorsement for using WordPress now is it? Let’s wait for some more band-aid solutions via the next update shall we? Or maybe not.

Can someone action this please as matter of urgency? I am darned sure Studiopress won’t be too happy about it. Genesis Prose is a brilliant theme which is being completely undermined by this situation.

    Thanks.

Damnit. I had this happen with a client’s site. What a bloody mess.

Yes this sucks, months on still can’t find anyway to prevent this other than manual upgrades and manually checking.
