    1. Open .htaccess file.
    2. Remove anything similar to …

    AuthUserFile /folder/.htpasswd
AuthType Basic
AuthName "PrivateWebsite"
Require valid-user

    … from the .htaccess file.
    3. Save it.
    4. Delete the .htpasswd file.

    Thanks for this…turned out it was a sidebar link that was causing the problem pop-up…I removed it, all is fine again.
