• Hi,

I just signed up with Themify as it looks like a great tool for laying out one’s wordpress site. I’d like to try it out for a year. I have one question though and maybe you can answer this. They update the theme you use from their site as long as you are a member. If you cancel your membership, then there will no longer be any updates to your theme. I am new to wordpress. Is that a good thing or a bad thing???

    Your thoughts?

Depends on your intention. If you intend to change the theme significantly, and create your own, then updating won’t be of interest to you. Otherwise updating functionality, and fixing bugs and security issues will be of interest.

I really won’t be changing the theme significantly. I am pretty happy with it’s current layout. But I hadn’t thought about the fixing bugs and security issues. I guess if I have problems down the road with it, I could just change the theme. But that would be a bit of a hassle. Would you go with a product that doesn’t have updates down the road?

    Thanks

I wouldn’t pay for a theme that would be discontinued.

Let’s be practical for a moment. ANY theme, paid or unpaid, can be discontinued.

You’re paying membership for updates, which is normal and acceptable business practice.

That would explain why I have never bought a theme.
