I'm developing a new WordPress theme and suddenly the widgets closed automatically after drag and drop in the sidebar, i solved this problem by putting (ob_start();) at the beginning of (functions.php) and (ob_end_clean();) at the end of the file.

But unfortunately this problem appears again and i googled it but i didn't found solution (all developers talking about deactivate plugins and reactivate it), Actually i have no plugins unless default (Akismet and Hello Dolly) and both deactivated.

    thanks for help.

ob_start and the like are suppressing the errors in your code. Remove those lines and then in your wp-config.php file change the WP_DEBUG constant to TRUE. That should then give you some clue where your errors are coming from.

i had this same issue. resolved by removing a close php tag at the end of functions.php - not sure why that works to be honest as i've not dug any deeper, but hope it helps :)

I'm also having this problem but I do not have a closing ?> tag in my functions file and I've turned on debug and found no errors. I drag widgets to the sidebar and they open for a quick second then close. I can open them by clicking "Save" but still not optimal. Can't figure out what the problem can be.

I would also like to point out that I've disabled all plugins and remove any custom code that I had previously (none of which had antyhing to do with the side bar, admin section, or widgets).
