[resolved] Themes Not Appearing (8 posts)

I've searched all around these forums, and I don't see anyone who's had this problem. I just installed WP. I tried to add some themes in the themes directory, but they don't show up on the presentation page.

I have changed the permissions in the entire themes directory to 777 for all files and folders- nothing. I REMOVED the default folder and the WP administration pages STILL let me use the default theme! I've logged out of the admin pages, but no effect. Any ideas here?

No other ideas? I've tried and uploaded 8 themes, and I'm sure at least two of them were listed as "2.3.1 compatible."

But what I really don't get is why I can delete the "classic" and "default" folders, yet those themes still show up and still apparently work.

Hey, here's something else that might help someone with knowledge figure out what I did -- I looked at adding a widget. In the plug-ins directory, there was no "widgets" directory. I added that directory and put a widget in there and it didn't appear, either. Is there a switch or something I need to turn on to allow customization of stuff?

No need for "widgets" directory. Widgets are just 'fancy' plugins. Put them in the plugins folder.

Now, the next question is: WHERE do you upload the themes?

BTW, you did NOT delete the default theme: it is there.

Whoa. This is really getting weird.

Okay, I think I've found the problem. I have no idea how to fix it, but it appears to not be a WordPress thing. When I view the blog using the correct domain name (which is supposed to be mapped to my server), WordPress isn't working. Where the heck it's finding those files, I don't know! But when I connect to the actual server with the server domain and my home path/account, I can find the themes I uploaded (but cannot use them because that site appears to not have the correct php version).

It doesn't make any sense at all to me, but it must be my host and nothing to do with WordPress. Thanks very much for the attempts at helping!
