• Hey there…
I have a bit of a problem. I have successfully set up wordpress on my server and I wanted to change the theme of my blog so I downloaded some themes and uploaded them to the wp-content/themes directory but they don’t seem to appear in the WP admin panel. Any ideas as to why?

    Thanks

  • just one.

I suggest watching the video tutorials:

    http://www.village-idiot.org/theme-howto

I have the same problem and I watched that video. It didn’t help me at all. The video is helpful if you don’t know how to upload something and use filezilla to upload. I don’t use filezilla and I do know how to upload files. I still have no access to any of my themes in the admin panel including the two themes that come with wp.

Do the original themes show up in the admin panel?

Oftentimes themes come inside of an extra folder like this theme/theme/themesfiles.ext

If you upload the “theme” folder, it won’t work. You can to make sure to get the 2nd “theme” folder from within the first “theme” folder and upload that. Also, you have to make sure that it is a current theme and was made for WordPress. Another thing you can try is to put a php.ini file in your wp-content and wp-content/themes folders and increase the memory_limit.
It should look something like this: memory_limit = 64M
(But I’m not sure if the memory_limit effects it to be honest)

It didn’t help me at all

Nice. The videos arent intended to teach you how to upload OR use filezilla. Theyre intended to illustrate the MOST COMMON problem associated with themes not showing up in the admin area — nested directories– which is exactly why thats the first thing BernardBorealis mentioned as well.

I still have no access to … including the two themes that come with wp.

then that obviously suggests something else is going on.

How about sharing the url to the blog in question.

    My blog is located at:

    http://www.cantkeepquiet.com

BTW, I didn’t have any problems with themes until I upgraded to 2.6.
