• This site was a new installation with very little done to it when I set it aside a month or two ago. At that time it was visible and had an active theme with a, possibly a child theme I was beginning to make small tweaks like adding a logo. If i have to start over with a fresh install I’ll do it, but I would still like to understand what might have happened to it while I wasn’t looking.

Now the site only shows a blank white page and when I look in the Admin themes panel it says I have only one theme installed, but none are showing.

In the main Dashboard I am greeted by the error message: “ERROR: The themes directory is either empty or doesn’t exist. Please check your installation.”

In the actual site there were twentyten, twentyeleven and my child theme. I tried adding some others to see if it they would show but there was no change.

How could this have happened? Any suggestions besides starting over?
    Thank you…

  • Any updates on this?

I’m running in to the same issue where WordPress doesn’t see the Themes folder or the Plug in folder (even though they are both there!) I’m getting this with a new installation (3.3) on Windows Server 2008 (IIS 7.5) with MySql. Thanks,

This has been discussed over here a bit. In my case it helped to go to AppearanceThemes and deactivate and activate the theme again. Then this errormessage in the dashboard was gone and the website was loading again.
