    Hello:

    I'm super new to this website design thing, I tried changing the CSS stylesheet to:

    #main {
    	width:100%;
    	float:left;
    	overflow:hidden;
    }

    #content {
    	width:65%;
    	float:left;
    }

    #secondary {
    	width:25%;
    	margin-left:7.054%;
    	float:left;
    }

    and

    #main {
    	width: 100%;
    	float: left;
    	overflow: hidden;
    }
    #content {
    	width: 65%;
    	float: left;
    }
    #secondary {
    	width: 25%;
    	margin-left:7.054%;
    	float: left;
    }
    /*
    #tertiary {
    	width: 23.775%;
    	float: right;
    	overflow: hidden;
    }*/

    [please mark any posted code - http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome#Posting_Code ]

    Neither seem to get me any closer to reach my goal or removing Sidebar 2 and splitting the available width between content and sidebar 1.

    I update the code and go to my website and nothing has changed.. am I missing a step? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    I'm simply trying to remove the second sidebar and increase the content and sidebar 1 size.

    Be well,

    try working with a browser inspection tool such as Firebug to investigate which styles are responsible for formatting which elements.

    after edits to the styles, don't forget to clear the browser cache by reloading the web page or by pressing 'CTRL F5'

    It looks like you are missing a closing bracket in your style.css file -- so that messes up all the styles following it -- look here:

    #wrap {
    	margin:4px 0 0;
    	padding:40px 0;
    	overflow: hidden;
    	border-top: 1px solid #ddd;
    	border-bottom: 1px solid #ddd;
    #main {

    You need a closing bracket for the #wrap styles before the #main.

    You also have a few mark-up errors, so you might want to deal with those as well in case any are causing problems:
