    Website: http://www.gnomi.co.uk
Theme: Twenty Twelve (with Jetpack plugin installed)

    Greetings,

I would like the header, body and sidebar on my blog to be separate and clearly defined, in a similar manner to the design found on this blog: http://dienekes.blogspot.co.uk.

How would I change it on my current theme?

    Kind regards.

Do not edit the Twenty Twelve theme. First create a child theme for your changes. Or use the custom CSS module in Jetpack.

Then what code should I type in on the custom CSS module? Can I achieve the same desired results using it?

I would suggest that you try using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of CSS work so that you can identify the CSS than needs over-writing. Or use whatever developer tool is available in your web browser.

Sadly, I am not an expert with CSS, which was why I was hoping that this was a common problem that could be resolved with the provision of a code. I'm sorry if I've misunderstood.

I've created a child theme. Is there a code I can copy and paste into my CSS stylesheet?

I'm sorry but it is really beyond the scope of these forums to deal with general CSS issues. Try a dedicated CSS resource such as http://www.css-discuss.org/ instead.
