    any time I manually add some css to style the admin's comments differently I end up with all replies to his comments being styled differently.

    can anyone help me out here?

    Don't edit the Twenty Ten theme. Instead create a child theme for your changes.

    Who said anything about editing the theme?
    I am using http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/safecss/ to add css styling to my current theme and the problem is that the theme seems to make it impossible to style the post author's comments different.

    as soon as you have a slightly complex structure as in:

    visitor comment
    author comment
    visitor comment
    Visitor comment
    author comment

    every reply to a post author comment gets also styled the same.

    So the question is: is anyone able to provide a css sample to style the post author's comments differently? As in i.e. having a border on the left side or a different background color?

    I'm sorry but it is beyond the scope of these forums to deal with basic CSS issues. Try a dedicated CSS resource such as http://www.css-discuss.org/ instead. I'd also recommend using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of CSS work.

    esmi, I can see I have pi**ed you off with my answer, but how do you think I felt when I saw your comment, that was not relevant to my question?

    You see, I posted this into the Themes and Templates section and the subtitle of this section says: XHTML and CSS

    So basically I would politely ask you to stop answering my posts if you don't want or can't help me out. I know you are a theme diva and mod but I don't see how that makes your answer relevant to my topic.
    Can we stop fighting? This is the second time we got into an argument over nothing :-(
    ----------------------------------

    On topic again:
    I do use firebug and as I said: I partially managed to solve my issue except it doesn't work for nested comments.

    This is as far as I have got:

    li.comment-author-username div {
    border-left:5px solid #f2f7fc;
    background-color:#f2f7fc;
    }

    I also tried:

    li.comment-author-username div div.comment-body {
    border-left:5px solid #f2f7fc;
    background-color:#f2f7fc;
    }

    And it works except for nested comments.
    I was thinking that I might have to specifically style the other comments to keep them, i.e. white?

    As in adding this to the above statements?

    li div div.comment-body {
    background-color: white;
    }

    Anyone got any tips or familiar with the code of twenty ten?
