Support » Themes and Templates » [Theme: Twenty Eleven] Replace Given 'Search' with Widget Only??

  • The provided search bar on my site is grey and ugly and floats over the header when the window is condensed. I want to delete it and replace it with a widget search bar in my sidebar.

I’ve got the widget set up already. I just need to remove this provided floaty grey search bar.

So far the only help I can find is to deactivate the search function entirely by deleting the code in the Search Form. I don’t want to do that, of course.

    Can anyone help?

  • Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. Create a child theme for your changes. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

I don’t know how to create a childtheme and to be honest is seems like a lot more work than merely tweaking the three things I am. Thank you for the warning though.
