   I am working as a child theme, don't worry.

   I need to change the format of the single post. I want to move the title and date underneath the post title to match the other sections of the site.

   Please let me know which file/s to modify and how.

   You need to amend the single.php template file in your child theme. Please see Theme Development for an overview of the template hierarchy.
