How do I make a post a static page on my homepage url?

The customize section in the themes section does not seem to work.

You mean you want to make a PAGE static?
    THAT you can do.
Put the content you want on your front page and put it in a page. Select THAT page to be your front page!

No, that option is not there. I am using wordpress 3.4.2 and twenty eleven version 1.4

That option is in themes and then customise, but it does not work.

    Any other suggestions?

no. Option has to be there. Or we don't understand what you want.

Maybe you could be more specific:

WHAT exactly do you want on your front page? And what exactly is there NOW?

Do you have a link to your page you can give us?
    Thanx

That option is in themes and then customise

Now try using Settings -> Reading.

I also use WP 3.4.2 with that default theme, and the option is definitely NOT there... and the option to select a static page or latest posts in the theme customization option does NOT work!

I then selected another theme (twenty-ten) and still, the option in the settings->reading is not there.

It looks to me that wp 3.4.2 does not have that option...

I just set up a new site with 3.4.2 also and was freaking out a little bit when I could not find the option to choose what page was the front page. I thought I was losing my mind for a minute or two. They just moved it.

    From the Dashboard select "Appearance"

Select "Customise" on the Theme that you are using.

A fly-out leaf will open that will give you options to select for the Theme. One of them is "Static Page". You have the same choice as you did previously where any post, latest post or any page can be your static front page. It's all good!
