Twenty Eleven
Change Width of Content on separate pages, posts, and categories (4 posts)

    I promise this will be my last question for some time, I'm little embarrassed to have the last 3 posts on the board.

    I want the width of the content on the first page to be the same as the width of the content on the pages that are linked via the buttons on the right in the below link. I'd also like to do this for the single posts and categories. I've been tinkering with all sorts of margin code but I can't get it to work. What code do I need to edit to change the width of the pages linked on the right, individual posts, and categories? Thank you!

    First of all, if you have not been making your theme changes in a child theme, you really ought to consider doing so. Updates to twentyeleven can overwrite your customisations and, what is more, having unmodified versions of default themes is mandatory for some types of support.

    Creating a child theme is child's play. Check out this article in the Codex.

    As far as altering the width of page content, if you check it out in Firebug you'll see that it's this rule that is determining the narrower width:

    .singular #content, .left-sidebar.singular #content {
      margin-bottom: 0;
      margin-left: 7.6%;
      margin-right: 34%; /* this one!!! */
      margin-top: 0;

    A rule such as this, in your child theme style sheet:

    .singular #content, .left-sidebar.singular #content {
      margin-right: 24%; /* or whatever you fancy */

    ... should work.

    Hey peredur,

    I think what you have suggested above may have caused my issue seen in the below thread. Any ideas what might be going on here? Thanks again!

    Looks like it. Alchymyth knows far more about this than I do, so I think I'll leave you in his hands. Hand-held devices really aren't my field.
