   The simplest way to describe what I need would be:

   I want the newest/top post (cover) to be displayed larger and/or "more important" than the others.

   Any ideas on a theme to start with?

   there is this theme which highlights the latest post with a graphic. http://themecorp.com/themes/vidiyal/

   there's gridlock which you can see on this page or get the updated version from the designers page

   But your best bet is to research. Only you know exactly what you want.

   This might need php loop editing. No big deal.
