My blog has reset its theme to WP basic, and when attempting to log in, my password is rejected. I am then told I am not a registered user. What is going on?

That doesn't sound good. You should probably dig into the database with phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in their control panel), locate your user and try to reset the password by following this guide:

It is possible that you blog was hacked. If so, stay calm and follow this guide:
