Theme installation on an IP address - relative links (5 posts)

    Hi,
    I am a web debveloper.
I usually install the site on an IP address and build the site in total anonimity. When the site is readt, I point the domain to the ip address OR add 'A" record to the IP address. A typical address may look something like http://56.376.845.90/~g8shreyh/. Lastly, I change the wordpress and url address from http://56.376.845.90/~g8shreyh/ to http://www.mysite.co.nz

This has one issue. Many of the sits links remain absolute. The old ip-based links still work - most of the time. However, I need to mtest every link to ensure that the site is ready - quality-wise.

Can someone suggest a method by which I can manage the issue please?

    Thanks

    Mohan

This works very well, but read the instructions and warnings and make SURE you have a database backup FIRST!

    Hi 2ninerniner2,
Thanks for the reply. I will follow that (g00d) advice.

I am not sure what "WordPress Address (URL)" and "Site Address (URL)" in Settings>General do. If I place the site's final address - http://www.mysite.com in Site Address (URL) and http://56.376.845.90/~g8shreyh in the WordPress address, will the links, when inserted, use the Site Address, thereby solving the issue?

    thanks
    Mohan

Oh! I forgot to mention that I am a WordPress user. I apologise.
