Theme flexibility

    I apologize if I am posting in the wrong area; complete newbie to WP. I would like to know how much flexibility I can expect with the existing free themes – I’m trying to build a page with a custom header image, a slideshow immediately beneath, a paragraph of text beneath that, and 7 left-hand side links to pages. Is there an existing theme that would be ideal for this?
