Theme files and php question (4 posts)

I'm new to WP and want to create my own theme. Just for learning purposes, I found a theme that someone else is using. I'd like to re-create their theme as a way to learn. But since I cannot download their php files, is there a way to just get the style.css file and go from there? How difficult will it be for me to work backwards and code new php files to make their stylesheet work for me?

    Thanks.

in other words, you want to rip someone else's site? and you want us to help you?

I, for one, would come to your house, if I caught you ripping my site or my CSS, regardless of you're liking it or not.

If you like a site, ask the web master before doing anything -- he or she would probably appreciate that more than you coming here and asking us.

Like I said, I'm just learning. I've read that "learning from the masters" is what many people do. You know, once I've got the hang of it, I can start to create my own themes.

The main point of my question is to understand the relation of the php files to the CSS stylesheet. Does every theme require completely different php files? If I'm starting from scratch, where is the best place to start with php files?

    yes they do. pretty much.

the best place to start is the codex :) I could link to 10 pages..
