    Hi there,

I have been brought into a project where I have not installed the WordPress site nor have coded the theme.

So… with that said, I’m unable to edit the theme files. If I do update page.php or any other others in there, the information in that file will erase and it’ll be a blank page.php. And then, I can’t reupload the file from FTP.

Does anybody know WHY this would happen? The theme is really strange, it’s called atahualpa351. Is this a host issue or a theme issue? I can’t really debug this because the whole site is so unstable.

Does anything come to mind at the problem and a possible solution?

  • First off all, you should never edit the theme files directly; if the theme ever gets updated (and that’s quite possible with Atahualpa), you will lose your changes. Instead, you should be working through a child theme.

Atahualpa, though, has a lot of different options that allow you to customize the appearance of the site, more so than many other themes. Go to Appearance > Atahualpa Theme Options to take a look. Is there something specific that you are trying to change that you can’t do through the theme’s option settings?

Too bad I wasn’t aware of this theme beforehand. Never heard of it no worked with it. Plus, I’ve worked on nearly 100 WordPress sites and none of them had child themes, but then again… I always code my own themes.

Yes, I’m using Advanced Custom Fields plugin to make it easier for the clients to update their pages. I don’t know if it’s the theme doing this or the programmers who did it, but when you go to a Page, there’s span and table tags all over the place; it’s a mess. Clients don’t know how or want to even sort through all the code to edit some information, so I was trying to make easier for them.

I was trying to edit some code, add some fields in the custom-page.php area, but the THING IS – I was able to edit those theme files a month ago with no problems. So… why now? That’s what I’m asking the host.

Turns out, it was the fact the there was no space left on the server. After removing some files, I was able to reupload the file. Thank you CrouchingBruin for your thoughts. 🙂
