• Ok not sure if this is the best place for this question. But here it goes.
I need a site that has real estate listings, with a very minimal (feature wise) user/membership feature that auto emails with server information based on saved searches in users profile.

Now i dont know what does what. If that makes sense. Now i know getting the MLS listings will be a plugin. But where does all the “formatting” come from? The way it looks, the layout? Does it come from the theme? Does it come from plugin CSS?

With the membership thing – does that have to be a plugin feature? or can it be a theme feature? or tie into something like buddy press?

Im just having a hard time trying to differentiate where all the coding ties in, which part does what and so on.

If you are a developer and would like to talk to me one on one – id love to. This is NOT for work – i simply want to KNOW how this can be done.

  • This I wouldn’t know and probably would require a dedicated developer to develop.

If you’re looking for the cheap way you might start of using a newsletter type of service where you ask users to select their preferred topics in a form and have different items displayed in the newsletter based on the selected categories. I would think this could be achieved with mailchimp or something similar.

Hey Linke – thanks for your input! I think i may have worded the question wrong.

Is a plugin able to simply gather data and have the theme CSS dictate what it looks like?

In theory, yes but most plugins also include their own CSS for those who do not wish to get into CSS editing. Try asking the developer of your chosen plugin in this case.

ok – so it can be either which way. There is no particular plugin – i am planning on getting a custom developed plugin. Im trying to learn as much as i can about it before i put in a requirement sheet to potential devs.

so it can be either which way

    Yes.
