Thematic: changing menu position (2 posts)

I'm trying very hard to get my head around Thematic, which I'm assured is the 'complete solution' for theme development, but I'm finding it hard to get the simplest things done with it and have read so many faqs/docs/tutorials that I'm getting lost in documentation.

I would like, for now, to just move the menu from a horizontal display below the header, to a vertical display in the left or right column. I've looked at the Thematic hooks but there's nothing obvious (to me) there. Could some kind person please point me towards a solution before my blood pressure goes postal? Thanks.

Even better, if there's a comprehensive guide to using Thematic that would be really, really handy. I've currently bookmarked some 20+ links to tutorials, docs, FAQs and the rest, but can't find any integrated guide. Each of the ones I've bookmarked, such as:

    A Guide to Thematic
    Thematic 4 You

are often partial and/or require an in-depth knowledge of the theme. Finding out how to do things is akin to solving a jigsaw puzzle.

I've chosen WP as a CMS and Thematic as a theme because I'm trying to cut down my site development time, but so far I've spent so much time trying to get my head around both that I could have developed a site from scratch twice over. I'm persisting in the hope that once I internalise the paradigms of these tools I'll save time in the future.

    Cheers

I'm sure it's a sign of madness to reply to your own posts, but after posting the above I came across "Goodbye headaches, hello menus" by Justin Tadlock which might answer my main question once I get the chance to read it in detail. On a skim read it looks like you have to disable the standard menu and add your own menu to then be able to locate it as you want. However, it's too late in the evening to try it now.

    Cheers
