The Text in my Posts is Duplicating (11 posts)

    My blog is setup here:
    http://ns1.cermusa.francis.edu/wordpress

Everytime I cut and paste text from somewhere (an email, etc), parts of the text get duplicated in the post. See the example post from today (11/8/06) as an example, the 3 paragraphs starting from "Artists Bio" are entered twice. I'm positive that the text that I'm copying from only has the entry in there once.

To make things worse, when I go in to the admin pages to modify the post by removing the duplication, after I save it, the change doesn't stick and/or other parts of the post are duplicated!

This site is being hosted on a RedHat server with a pretty normal config.

Did I miss something or is this behavior just way out there??

I just checked in the database, the duplicate text is getting put into the DB as well. I did a bit of searching and found that I should turn off the Rich Text Editor, but I'm getting the same result.

Also, it should be noted that I'm not Cut/Pasting from MS Word, but rather Emails. When I do the post, the duplicates are not in it.

I just upgraded to version 2.0.5.

    Any ideas?

    I have no ideas! :-)

So let's start with the obvious: What plugins are you running? Does this problem go away if some/all are disabled?

Well, the only plugins i'm running are Akismet, Hello Dolly, and WordPress Database BAckup.

I'll try disabling them and posting. I also tried IE & Firefox browsers, and the problem happened with both.

I deactivated all plugins, but no luck.

    What browser are you using?

    If Firefox, any extensions?

[disregard, I see you already answered]

I just typed in a long entry and the behavior repeated itself, so the problem does not lie only with cutting and pasting, but rather seems to be the length of the entry.

OK, this is weird. I just did a post on a Linux (Ubuntu) machine using Firefox and the post went in as expected (no duplication). I then thought it must just be a problem with my laptop. I found another windows machine and went through the procedure, and it duplicated the text just as the other Windows machine had.

So it looks like there is something different between how the Windows machine and the Linux machine pass the post to the WordPress DB.

Do you have access to try posting from any other windows machines?

    Gotta admit, I'm pretty stumped.

HandySolo, yes, I posted from the other windows machine and was getting the duplication.

However, I think I found the problem. I just upgraded the MySQL version from 3.23 to 4.0 and now things seem to be posting correctly!

I spoke too soon, I'm still having the same problem. If anyone wants to make a post and experience this for yourself (and to make sure I'm not nuts), let me know and I'll create an account.
