I am getting the seemingly common "The page isn't redirecting properly" error when I try to access the admin section of my site and so far have not been able to resolve it with suggestions found here. I've noticed many, many unresolved questions on this topic and am very discouraged.

    Questions:
    1) Many notes say to change the permalink structure back to default, but how do you do that if you can't log in to the admin section?

    2) How do you uninstall or delete plugins if you can't log in?

Thx for answers to these questions.

    1. Use FTP to delete or rename your .htaccess file.

    2. Use FTP to rename or delete the plugin folder (wp-content/plugins/whateverpluginfolder/) that's causing problems.

Thanks for the suggestions. Didn't resolve the "page isn't redirecting properly" issue, but worth a try.

Any other suggestions? I've tried everything I found on these forums other than complete reinstall.

Do you use the TTC Security Plugin? This happened to me after I upgraded the plugin a few days after the 2.9 upgrade. In the new version of the plugin the lines you need to edit to change 127.0.0.1 to your own IP are already commented out. Now before I upgrade this plugin I will deactivate it, then do the required editing and then activate it.

If you delete the security plugin directory using your FTP client the problem will go away. Reinstall the plugin and leave it deactivated until you edit the file.

I'd like to add to this picture: the Redirection plugin was the culprit for me. I had installed and activated it, but not set up any redirections. Still it was somehow picking up on an older version of a page that I had renamed, and I ended up with the "not redirecting properly" loop.

I need the plugin though so will reinstall and see if that helps.
