Howdy! I wonder if you fine folks can help me out.

I’m in the middle of customizing a theme to set up a new blog, and it has a really nice Featured Article section at the top. Problem is, in Chrome and Safari that section disappears upon loading the page, but it shows just fine in Firefox, leading me to think this is a Webkit browser issue. Check it out: http://www.jaffydesigns.com/blog

In comparing the source code output by WP in both browsers, it appears that the inline style “display: none;” is being inserted into the containing div (“featured-inner”) for this section when viewed in Chrome & Safari.

Can anyone help me figure out what might be causing this and how to fix it? It’s accelerating the already rapid retreat of my hairline…

    Thanks!

    Jason

I just checked it out in both Chrome and FF 3.5 on Mac. In FF, your top content is being pushed down by the bug adspace there, and is overlapping the main section. In Chrome, it actually does appear – and after the page fully loads it disappears, leaving only three small thumbnail images.

You might start by fixing your validation errors. That’s get you started on your way to debugging the issue. Many times, just validating fixes the issue on it’s own.

Also, your Twitter widget is having troubles (especially the search thing), and there’s something from lijit.com that is still trying to load after 10 minutes of waiting.

So I would recommend you first deactivate your plugins and temporarily dispose of your third-party functions/plugins/code, and validate your site. See if that helps. if it does, then start re-activating your plugins one at a time and see what effect they have. Somewhere in there, I bet you’ll find the culprit.

Awesome, thanks doodlebee! Why do I always forget the validation part?? *facepalm*

I see what you mention in Chrome, but I’m not experiencing any probs in FF – any chance you could shoot me a quick screen grab?

As for the Twitter widget, again, I don’t see any probs – if you’re referring to the fact that my one tweet is being repeated over and over again, it’s because I haven’t launched this blog yet, (since I’m trying to fix this stuff), so I’m the only one using that hashtag. If you saw something else going on, I’d love to know.

    Thanks again, you really helped!

Update: I’ve addressed all the validation errors, and deactivated all the plugins, and the hidden featured section issue still remains…

Sorry – I was out of town last week.

What I meant by the Twitter widget was I’m using the “Firebug” add-on for Firefox, and it tells me what things make the site “hang”. Your Twitter widget makes the site slow – but then again, you’re using a 3rd party app (Twitter) and that’s to be expected.

There’s something called “ga.js” (ah – Google Analytics) that’s *still* trying to load – and it’s been a good 5 minutes since I brought up your site. Your timthumb script is also doing a funky dance.

otherwise, it looks fine. Showing up just fine for me in FF 3.5, Opera, Safari and Chrome – so maybe yougot it all fixed while I was gone last week 🙂

    Nice site, BTW!

Thanks very much, Doodlebee, and sorry I didn’t get back to you on this.

Google Analytics has been slowing me down a lot recently, not sure why. As for timthumb, this was built into the wp-theme I based this design on, so not sure I want to mess around with that too much…

I ended up abandoning the thumbnail idea and decided to go with just one featured article at a time…sucks, but I didn’t want to wait too much longer to launch this.

    Appreciate your help tremendously!
