it add duplicate files of all fixed files and adds .bak to it. Why is this? I have hundreds of double files now. Anyone got a clue?

    tanjadebie,

did you read the plugin page? do you even know what the plugin does?

maybe read what the plugin does:

it will check all folders (except wp-admin and wp-includes catalog)'s php file whether include head and tail blank lines, It would delete the blank lines

maybe read the FAQ for the plugin?

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/fix-rss-feed/faq/

Obviously you had a lot of blank lines.

I tried this plugin without taking the appropriate first steps and ended up with a blank screen for two hours as well. Let me tell you what to do to avoid this problem.

    1. backup your database and files. If worse comes to worst, you can always overwrite. That's also why the .bak files get created. That is very important.

    2. deactivate all other plugins.

    3. run the plugin. afterwards, you should have eliminated the problem with the extra line at the top of the rss feed, which in my case was also a problem on the site as well. If this plugin fix does anything wrong to our root php files or the ones in your wp-includes or wp-admin folders, you can use the .bak files or your backup to overwrite. I didn't have this problem though.

    4. Now is where you would have had the white screen problem. Because your plugins were inactive to begin with, you won't get a white screen this time. Since you already de-activated the plugins, you have to reactivate them. What happened to me is that as I re-activated the plugins, a plugin which had been stripped (erroneously?) of an extra line break failed. So I deleted it and re-downloaded the original version from wordpress.org without a hitch. In my case, the plugin that failed was Advertising Manager.

    5. The first plugins to re-activate are any plugin that alter your feed like Ozh Better Feed, which puts a footer in my site. Similar plugins would include Add-to-Any or Sociable.

    6. Once you have re-activated any plugins that alter your feed, you'll want re-sync your feed with FeedBurner (if you use FeedBurner) Go to the Troubleshootize tab at Feedburner and hit the button labelled "Re-sync Now." If your feed works, you'll get a message saying "You have successfully resynchronized the Feed....".

    7. At this point, you can re-activate all the other plugins with the caching plugin being the last to re-activate. Empty your cache and you will have a fresh start and everything should be back to normal.

I spent a good half-day dealing with the line break and white screen because I didn't prepare properly. So I hope this saves someone my heartache.

    Good luck.
