From a user interface standpoint - 2.5 is a massive improvement. The power of logical layout and organization never ceases to amaze me. The people responsible for the new look and design get my respect. This should really help wordpress grow.

Ehr..Have you tried to post a picture? Have you counted all additional screens to go through and clicks you must perform to do a simple post. Have you seen the new widget ui?

Yes I post images every day. I use IImage Browser and IImage gallery and they work flawlessly. I love the new widget ui. I also like the fact that you can now find the new widget ui.

There are bits that I do like and bits that I don't. The simpler menu system is nice. The annoyingly long write post section is not. The plugin upgrade stuff is nice. The widgets loss of drag and drop is a devastating blow to usability. And so on, there's ups and downs.

Then it is probably a better solution for your partricular way of working, i.e., working with galleries. Most of the users don't work with a gallery plugin and simply want to post a few pictures in their post.

You love the new widget UI? You gotto be kidding. That is not a matter of taste; the new UI is a downright depreciation of functionality and context.

Anyway, I am grateful for what I get. If this can't be improved I am still happy with the software(just a bit less).

Nooo... I'm with Cluetrain on that one. The new widget panel sucks. Big time. The removal of drag/drop from the widgets is a horrible tragedy. It is now way harder to use than before, and sorta ruins the whole point of widgets to my mind.

I've been a huge WP fan since 2005 but this latest update is a real pain in the ass. Since updating my site to 2.5 I can no longer access 'pages' at all and inserting/editing images is rubbish compared to 2.3.3.

Hate the way we dont have items on the sidebar of the write page/post admin page now and have to scroll half way down the world to get to anything... but the rest of it seems a little prettier :)

No trouble transfering from 2.3 - 2.5 here.

Same situation here for pages. It seems to only occur when you use /index.php/%postname%/ permalink structure. One solution would be use different permalink structure but you don't actually change it for a blog. You will loose all your internal- and backlinks.

Aarnet - I know, it's a real pain in the arse. Why this worked perfectly under 2.3.3 but not under 2.5 is a mystery to me.

I'm actually considering closing down my site as a result, maybe starting up a new one with a fresh install because I'm sick of all the issues I run into using WP on Windows/IIS, although it had stabilised on 2.3.3 and was working fine.

    I guess I shouldn't have upgraded :(

Otto42 I am not saying wordpress is perfect. The reason I don't use wordpress's media function is I have never had luck uploading images with the default browser. But I am saying I would gladly trade the ability to drag and freakin drop a widget or two for the exponential advancements we got in the interface department. WordPress 2.5 is now easier to use. Period.

I know this section is mainly for angry hacked-off types but I guarantee you there are many more people out there who love the changes than hate them. But unlike the whiners, they don't show up here and pitch a fit. :-)

    I think you have a point. (:

For me, I don't really use the image gallery and widgets stuff so I can't comment on that. But for what I use WordPress for (good old posting), I'm satisfied. I have to say it was a really big change that was hard to get use to at first but hey, after my second day, it was all okay. I actually enjoyed the new look. I mean c'mon, do you really wanna log in for the rest of lives and see the same old format of the dashboard? Changes are neccessary for improvisation in my opinion. (: I know some people are gonna throw the "If it ain't broken, don't fix it." ideal, but hey, you're not gonna move very far from Square One if you resist changes.

However, if there's one thing I don't understand is how "the dashboard got simpler" (I think it was posted in one post on dev blog), because honestly I felt it got a whole lot more messier @.@, okays maybe complex is a better word. But I'm fine with that, no complains.

I want to be able to move my widgets around visually. There is no way to move them around for what I see. I miss that feature and want it back. I use widgets all the time.

I find SOME of the (somewhat newer/different) layout/organization of the admin NOT logical - or at least cumbersome to navigate.

It's mostly to write a page, sometimes I'm too eager and start writing a post. Then to edit a page, it takes more steps than I'd like. I'd like pages to be separate from writing posts and more accessbile from top-level, personally.

But most of all I hate the new practically hidden links to drafts. Well, yes, there's a drafts link on the Dashboard with the rest of the CLUTTER of links - not that that area's bad - it's just it lets me forget about some of my drafts. Silly brain, but WP used to better help. What's worse is when I go to write - I can't get to drafts from there any longer, I have to THEN go to edit. I'm not used to this, and I'd rather not get used to it.

Also, I miss the list of recent drafts, SO helpful. Sometimes annoying when I didn't want to work on them, but it helped get them posted - hehe. I'd also see other writer's drafts that might need my attention. (I own the blogs and have had others write FOR me.)

Yes, there is a plugin to help most of that, but when I last used that plugin, I found it a bit troublesome - like the navigation became off. For instance, I know I remember the wrong tab highlighted when write page or something was moved. Perhaps this has been fixed?

Still, I'd like this improved within WP, personally.

That being said, I WAS just thinking the other day how WordPress is the best thing since sliced bread. This is just constructive criticism.

And why is sliced bread so great? I kind of like rolls, as well! Therefore WP is BETTER. Haha. (What was good BEFORE sliced bread, eh?) :-)

Cluetrain - sometimes I have trouble with new installs/upgrades and the image editor, but it's improved (totally fixed?) since 2.6. There's also the option to not use flash, which helps.

However, when I select "don't include link to photo" or whatever it is, a link still is included. :-(

Instead of reviving a 5 months old useless topic... you guys should go and VOTE about the upcoming changes:
