   I recently installed 1.2 on a test site, and activated textile2, but I couldn't see any difference.
   The textile website didn't tell me much either.
   So what is this thing for?

   The advantage is that you can put text that you normally type like Edgar and his gnoos?! can now be typed like this: *Edgar and his gnoos?!*. Less typing.

   Ok, I understand the effort about Textile, but the wiki sintax is very more simple.
