[resolved] Text Wrap around Images - twentyeleven (6 posts)

I noticed that my text doesn't wrap using the twentyeleven theme. The Wrapping Text Around Images Codex says I need certain required code like 'img.alignright {float:right; etc.'

I thought 2011 would already have the wrap function.

I downloaded the 2011 theme zip file and expanded it into my local site files. I found the styles.css file and searched for the required code. It was not there.

    I have several questions.

Isn't there a styles.css file already on my wordpress site? I could not find it.

Where do I add the required code in the styles.css file that I downloaded?

Where do I put the updated styles.css code on my wordpress site?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Frank,

You do have a style.css file in the themes directory. From your dashboard, it should be in Appearance -> Editor.

Rather than editing that file directly, it is best practice to create a child theme first. If you edit the style.css file without a child theme, any updates to the WordPress theme would overwrite any changes you have made. If you haven't already, check out the article Child Themes for great instructions on how to create the child theme.

To respond to your other questions, once you have created a child theme, you would upload the child styles.css to your child themes directory and then activate it from the dashboard. From that point on, any changes you need to make would be done from the dashboard in Appearance -> Editor.

Since the child theme style.css is a barebones stylesheet, you can insert the required code underneath the base code in the child theme's style.css.

    mar1965,

    Thank you

I created the child theme folder, twentyeleven-child and the associated style.css file and uploaded it under the theme folder, as suggested by the Child codex.

    The codex doesn't mention activation.
I could not find the twentyeleven-child theme on the dashboard.
How can I tell if the twentyeleven-child theme is installed?

    Thanks

    You're welcome Frank!

In the codex article, Example of a basic Child Theme, please see the third step. You would go to Appearance -> Themes.

To Activate it, in the Manage Themes tab, look for the twentyeleven child theme that you created and and click on the Activate link.

    I hope that helps!

    Martin,

That fixed it. There was amessage on Manage themes that said there was a broken one. I redid my css file; the child appeared and I activated it.

    Thanks again
