I have a couple of blogs for different work activities. I recently worked out an easy way to embed a swf file on my blog (yay me) and wanted to share this on another blog.

To my surprise, my method didn’t work on the second blog and it seems the only difference is one blog has an HTML tab (the embed code worked here) and the other has a text tab (didn’t work).

How can I get the HTML tab instead of the text tab on all my blogs?

The HTML tab was renamed TEXT in WP3.5 – it’s otherwise no different.

Perhaps related to a .swf file is that you can no longer upload those – as a security precaution:

Looks like your first site (linked above) is using an outdated version of WP? So that may be the difference – however running an old version is a major security risk in and of itself so you should definitely get that up to date.

Hmmm. Can you suggest why pasting the embed code for the swf file doesn’t work then?

Updated security restrictions around file uploads to mitigate the potential for cross-site scripting. The extensions .swf and .exe are no longer allowed by default, and .htm and .html are only allowed if the user has the ability to use unfiltered HTML.
