Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

I’ve tried all those, but still get the same problem, even with no plugins and the Twenty Fourteen theme.
So – just to clarify – the Text tab works but all text is white on a white background?
The text is all white in the visual tab, and when clicking on the text tab, it doesn’t allow it, it just stays on the visual tab.
This is only in 3.8 though, in 3.7.1 it is ok.
strange, that’s not showing wp for some reason
well that was stoopid of me, I seem to have deleted all the wp files somehow, I must have been a bit delete trigger happy
Ask your hosts if they can restore the files.
I think I must have pressed delete when I had all the wp files marked, but it’s back to normal ok, I had a backup 🙂
I am having the same problem. Nothing listed helps. Manual update doesn’t fix it. At first everything was fine until I once used WP-Cron for tommorows post. After placing the post to WP-Cron list, TinyMCE refused to work. Shows just same things like in HorrorUKs issue.
